Second Summer Business Institute Introduces Minority Students to Business
The School of Business held the second annual Summer Business Institute in July 2003. 23 high school juniors and seniors from the metro region earned a college credit by attending the event.
The Institute’s goals are to provide minority high school students with knowledge of career opportunities in business and create familiarity with college campuses to encourage attendance of college. Attendees are introduced to business basics and entrepreneurship.
The event is free for the students who were recruited through local high schools and non-profit organizations. During the four day seminar, students attended classes with lectures by facility, participated in activities such as developing marketing plans, and visited local companies, Nike, Fred Meyer, and Wells Fargo, to gain an understanding of business positions and activities.
The third Summer Business Institute is scheduled for July 26 – 29, 2004.
