Graduation Events

There are two different graduation ceremonies for MBA and MSFA students – the University Commencement Ceremony and the SBA Hooding Ceremony.

PSU Commencement

Portland State University’s Spring Commencement is a formal ceremony designed to honor the accomplishments of those students who will have earned degrees or certificates in fall, winter, or spring quarter of the corresponding academic year. Degree candidates for summer quarter may also participate in the spring ceremony.

For more information, please visit the Commencement web site at http://www.ess.pdx.edu/adm/commencement.

SBA Hooding Ceremony

The School of Business Administration’s Hooding Ceremony is an event specifically for SBA graduate students who will earn an MBA or MSFA degree in fall, winter, spring, or summer quarter of the corresponding academic year. Students who earned degrees in the summer quarter of the previous year are also invited to attend.

The Hooding Ceremony is to honor our graduating master’s students. Students will wear their commencement cap, gown, and hood (order these items from the Commencement Office). The SBA faculty and deans will participate by placing the hood over the student’s head, onto their gown – a symbolic gesture of honor. The Hooding Ceremony is typically the Friday before the University Spring Commencement Ceremony.
