SBA Admission Criteria

  1. A cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.75 is expected.  Typically, students with a GPA less than 2.75 will need to complete 12 graduate credits with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.  See Pre-MBA Admission Courses (PDF) for more information.  Please note: Applicants with an undergraduate GPA between 2.50 and 2.75 who poses an outstanding GMAT score, work experience and letters of recommendation may be eligible for conditional admission without completing the 12 graduate credits.
  2. Official GMAT score sent directly from the Educational Testing Services to the SBA. A minimum GMAT total score of 470 is required, plus a score of at least 35% in both the verbal and quantitative sections is expected. In Portland, the GMAT is given every month at the Sylvan Learning Centers. The PSU GMAT code is 4610.   3. Two letters of recommendation and a one-page essay of intent from the student. For guidelines, visit the GMAT website at www.mba.com and read about recommendations and essays under "Apply Effectively."

  4. A one page resume of work experience.

  5. International students whose first language is not English and who do not have a bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. institution are required to supply PSU with official TOEFL scores sent directly from the Educational Testing Service. The minimum TOEFL score required on the computer-based test is 213.

  6. Two years of full-time, career-related work experience is preferred at the time of admission, but may be waived with strong GPA and/or GMAT scores.

  7. Knowledge of introductory calculus and microcomputer applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, database software and presentation software

  8. eMBA students must have direct and unlimited access to a computer with Internet and World Wide Web access. We do not recommend any particular brand of computer, but will give a general overview. It is the responsibility of the student to make sure they have the necessary computer resources and skills. Students are not required to purchase their own computer (although it is highly recommended to own a computer and have network access at home), but must have unlimited access to one that meets these minimum specifications. Internet access: Must be able to connect to the Internet and allow you to browse the World Wide Web. Email access is also required. IBM/Intel machines: Pentium-90 with at least 32 Megabytes of memory, a minimum 2 Gigabyte hard-drive, monitor, a sound card and speakers. Apple Macintosh: Power-PC based machine with at least 32 Megabytes of memory and a minimum 2 Gigabyte hard-drive. Operating System: IBM/Intel machines: Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows NT 4.0. Apple Macintosh: System 7.5 or better.

  9. MSFA applicants must also have:
    • A bachelor’s degree in business or a post-baccalaureate certificate in accounting
    • Completed a series in Intermediate Accounting
    • Completed an introductory course in Business Finance.
