Transfer Credit, Waivers, and Petitions
Transfer Credits
A maximum of one-third of the number of quarter hours required for the specific Master’s Degree may be used as transfer credit from all sources. Transferable credits must be graduate credits graded A or B received from:
- PSU prior to admission to the graduate program
- Other accredited institutions. Credit from foreign institutions is generally not transferable into a graduate program at PSU.
Credit cannot be transferred for the following:
- Courses for which a grade lower than B- was received
- Courses graded Pass
- Correspondence courses, television courses, and some short-term courses
- Courses which will be more than seven years old at the time of the student’s graduation
- Undergraduate courses
- Courses not accepted into graduate academic degrees without qualification at the originating institution
- Courses used in any other degree
- Courses used in any other degree at any institution

Waivers
Students may be eligible for waiver of core classes based on their undergraduate degrees or performance on a waiver exam. No more than 12 credits may be waived, reducing program requirements from 72 to 60 credits. Requirements for waiver are:
- FIN 514: Undergraduate degree in finance within the past four years, instructor approval, or waiver exam
- ISQA 511: One year of intermediate or applied statistics within the past four years, instructor approval, or waiver exam
- ACTG 511: Undergraduate degree in Accounting within the past four years, CPA Certificate, instructor approval, or waiver exam
- FIN 561: Instructor approval or waiver exam
- MKTG 544: Undergraduate degree in Marketing within the past four years, instructor approval, or waiver exam
- MGMT 550: Undergraduate degree in Management (including one human resource management course) within past five years or instructor approval
- MGMT 560: Instructor approval
In all cases, faculty may require the student to take a challenge exam to determine waiver.
